The Superior Court handles all felony criminal cases and certain misdemeanor criminal cases.

Traffic tickets and many misdemeanors are heard in District Court. The court that your matter will be handled in is generally listed at the very top of your paperwork (Summons or Citation).

There are criminal dockets every day of the week, though some are used only for initial appearances of defendants after arrest. More information on docket times can be found on our Schedule page.

All counsel and defendants in cases set for trial during a specific week are required to appear on the Thursday before at 8:30 for trial readiness and will be given a specific day and time for their trial to begin.

Defendants who qualify for appointment of counsel will have attorney’s assigned at their first appearance hearing. Information about appointed counsel may be found on our Public Defender resource page.

The court has general expectations for different parties in criminal matters as it relates to discovery and motion practice. Those expectations can be found at: Criminal Process.
